Computer Art Class: Photo-Collage Project #4 Guidelines

Project is due by Wednesday, March 30th.

For this part of the assignment you will need access to either a digital camera or a 35 mm camera (a disposable one is fine, too). Take a variety of pictures of the historic building structure of your choice from Carlisle/Nicholas County.  You will need about 24 pictures total for this project.  Consider different points of view and unusual angles in your compositions.  Close-ups of some of the more interesting architectural features of the building should be included.

Assignment:  From the 24 pictures choose 12 of the best images that you believe capture the spirit of the building and combine them into a finished collage.

Guidelines for this part of the assignment are as follows:
  • Collage size should be 8" x 10".  You may choose whichever format works best for you, either a horizontal or vertical format.
  • Resolution for this project should be at least 72 dpi.
  • You should have at least 12 layers of images.  (not counting effects or filters used)
  • The lower right side of the image must contain the name of the building and the approximate date when it was constructed.
  • Since this is the artistic part of the assignment, I do want to see you improve in your use of artistic effects and filters.
  • This time around, image layers should blend seamlessly together.  (NO JAGGED EDGES or WHITE OUTLINES!)
  • Save your final work as a PSD file.  DO NOT save it as a JPG file.  I want to be able to see the history of what you have done this time.
Considerations/options:
  • Think about use of color (or lack of) to create a mood or feeling.  (You can take color images and remove the color from them, you know!)
  • Do not excessively use artistic effects/filters to the point that the image of the structure becomes unrecognizable.

NOTE:  You will be turning in not only the pictures you took (which includes the ones you didn't use), but the finished collage as well for a grade.
