Illuminated Initials Painting Project

Project deadline- March 26^th, (Friday)

Estimated Time for Completion - Two Weeks

For this project you will need to look at the PowerPoint slide show that Mrs. Johnson has made to give you some ideas about what the final product should look like. There are also some additional resource books that she has on hand for you to look through for ideas to incorporate into your design.   This is a project that stresses creativity, so use your imagination in how you want to present the letter you have chosen.

Guidelines:

1)      Project must have a large, single initial located in the center of the composition so that it becomes the focal point.

2)      Initial letter should be bold and reflect style of font.

3)      Composition should contain a border that surrounds the letter. 

4)      Border must contain decoration that covers all four sides of the paper.

5)      Painting should reflect a harmonious and dominant color scheme that can be easily identified (i.e., warm colors, cool colors,  analogous colors, complimentary colors, etc…)

6)      Final design must contain repeated patterns that should be evident in the border.

You may want to also incorporate repeated patterns in the area where the letter is located.

7)      Illuminated letter design should incorporate images that are of personal interest to you.

8)      Overall design should be bold, graphic, and eye-catching. 

Suggestions for success: 

·        Consider allowing the inside of the initial letter to also be an element for the additional patterns or designs. 

·        Transitions in colors will help to create an illusion of depth or movement.

·        For an added sense of unity, keep the kinds of lines that are used in the design consistent throughout. (i.e. straight, curved, zig-zag, diagonal, etc.)
