Class Project 1 : Digital Imaging - Self Portrait Triptych Estimated time for completion: 2 weeks/10 class periods " Every man has three characters: that which he exhibits, that which he has, and that which he thinks he has." (Alphonse Karr).
This project involves creating 3 self-portraits of different moods and situations to represent yourself alternatively.
First analyze and meditate on yourself. You, as an artists, how do you define your own identity, what is most important to you, what kind of belief system or cultural system has inspired you, what kind of visual elements can be combined to represent yourself? Keep asking to yourself and get as many findings. Second, categorize your findings into 3 different sets of common elements and find related images from photos, the Internet, or from magazine which can be combined to create each different collage. Third, create compositions using many of the tools you have learned. Your work should demonstrate your technical proficiency thus far. Your final composition should show several techniques. Utilize layers, cutting, copying, and pasting. Develop your drawing, painting, blending, and layout techniques. Image and text may be combined. Focus on effective use of color and value.
Be aware of the relationship between the elements of your composition. Your imagery should reflect your thoughts in execution. Be prepared to discuss the meaning and why you chose the visual elements. Most of all, be CREATIVE!
Requirements: · Employ at least 3 different image sources for each composition. · Work on new images with 150dpi resolution, minimum 5 inches for each width and height. · For each final image, flatten the layers so that everything is merged into one layer and save it as different filename as a JPG image instead of a PSP or PSD image. For example save your files as (Yourname1.jpg) from the originals (Yourname.psp). Store your final images in the public folder named "Johnson Digital"
