Design a CATS Preparation Poster

Worth 50 points

Assignment:  Soon the review for the CATS test this spring will be upon us.  Your task is to get everyone to start getting excited about this important time of the year.  The CATS test is a very  important component in how our school's academic achievement is assessed by the state Department of Education.  Much depends on each student's performance, you it will be your job as a graphic designer to come up with a catchy poster that will grab their attention and get them focused on the job at hand.

Shown (at left) is an sample from a previous year's CATS posters that hung in the hallway.  One of the considerations I had to keep in mind that ultimately, the poster wasn't probably going to be printed in color because of the expense, so I just limited myself to only one color.  I tried to make the text of CATS resemble the "American Pie" movie logo style in an effort to be trendy.  I admit, it's pretty lame. Ok, it's REALLY lame-o.

That's where you come into the picture.  I know that you can do better than this, so prove it to me.  Design a CATS poster that is attractive, visually clean/uncluttered, and quickly conveys the idea that we've got to do our best on this test.

Project Requirements:
  • Poster size: 8 x 10 inches
  • Resolution: 150 dpi or higher
  • Text: must contain a clever slogan or idea about good performance on CATS testing, must contain the words "CATS 2006" somewhere on the poster
  • Graphics:  must be entirely ORIGINAL - you may NOT cut and paste anything directly from the Internet into your work.
  • Limit yourself to using only three or four colors maximum (Since I'm not sure if they will even print these in color or not yet.)
  • The final product should exhibit some of the skills you have learned thus far (i.e. use of masks, channels, layers effects, tutorial skills, etc.)
  • Save your original  work in the Computer Art 2005 folder under the "Finished Work" file, in the folder "CATS Poster".
